Kessel provided a list on July 1st and will submit a new one in a few weeks. Doubtful he would have gone to Coyotes. He doesn't seem like s hang around the pool kind of guy.
And yes the City would have to send a letter informing the Coyotes. The Council vote just gave them authority to do so.

Thanks, but I wasn't looking for confirmation. I know what's going on, I am just mocking this gong show and treating it with the respect it deserves.
I mean, there are 100 places you can go for detailed legal write ups of this situation and I would be serving no one by rehashing them and taking those people's work as my own. I will of course pass on any breaking news or comment on anything important, but I just can't see myself treating seriously the hourly updates of this saga.
Hockey and how this crap affects the hockey team will be my primary focus.
Florida seems like a good fit for Kessel and a good trade partner for the Leafs. I think everyone is tired of the potential Kessel return speculation so lets get it over with, have our laugh's at the dissapointed Leaf Fans who thought they would get the world in return and move on.

I don't know if I can handle an underwhelming return in a Kessel trade, I'm still so gutted by the Leafs not getting Babcock and being unable to circumvent Clarkson's contract.

I honestly don't think Kessel is moved. Nobody wants him bad enough to pay his full contract. I don't care how good he is. 8 million is a huge cap hit.
I can't see Kessel waiving to go to Arizona or Florida or any other team that could truly use him.

Kessel's plan is to play for all of the Original 6 teams before his career is over.
Leafs fans don't seem to realize the NHL has a salary cap now (or are pretending it doesn't). Phil Kessel is a very good offensive player almost any team would want and the Leafs would get a solid return (in a vacuum). On the other hand, Phil Kessel's $56 million tab is an albatross that negates much of his on-ice value and no one is likely eager to make that kind of investment on a player who just flat-out quit halfway through last season PLUS give up some valuable assets to do it. I know there's "the whole team quit" excuse but, if you look around the league, you won't see a lot of "quit" in the players that make Phil Kessel money.
There is the chance Glendale and the Coyotes settle this out of court. If not, the city of Phoenix, Suns and Coyotes can negotiate a new stadium build deal. Phoenix can swing this if the Coyotes make their numbers work sharing arena revenue and the NHL agrees.
Until that falls through, I'll still purchase my season tickets and get that new jersey as a way to support the team. Even if they leave in three years, that's still three more years of hockey to watch in person than we otherwise get. Would rather have a team for life but we all don't have the good fortune of living in an original six city. I'd venture that every one of you would do the same if the situation was reversed.
Arizona does have the nice weather going for them. The media wouldn't bother him either. I don't think Arizona is a preferred destination for him but I assume its not a place he wouldn't accept a trade to.

8 million for a point a game player is more than fine. If he was an FA he would be getting 9+

Well we know all NYI fans are well aware of the cap due to past cap blunders. No need to be ignorant and ignore the fact Kessel is a star player in his prime and being paid accordingly. If your team can't afford him move along please. I personally wouldn't be heart broken if Kessel ends up staying. So much leaf hate out there. Keep making us the center of the hockey universe. The evidence pile is overflowing.

I can see the Leafs taking on a bad contract in any deal to offset the ten million of next season and account for the way the deal is structured, but realistically, I doubt they have to actually pay part of Kessel's contract because he's a fantastic player.
The Leafs played last season without a top line centre or defenseman, and Kessel still put up 25 goals and had enough shots that he could have gotten 35 easy with just a little luck.
He never misses game and comments about his effort and character are ridiculous. He is a nice enough guy, a great athlete and in the prime of his career. If you look at a guy who averaged 35 goals over the last four years with Bozak and no protected minutes, I think you have to imagine teams who can provide some protection and a top-line centre might have to think Kessel would be worth the $8 mill hit - whatever contracts Toronto takes back.
I don't see a good fit with AZ even if he'd accept a trade there. The Coyotes are in no position to gut their prospect pool and Gormley, Domi and a lottery protected pick would not push the franchise forward enough to make it worth while, and I can't image Toronto taking any less.
Would it be crazy to move the Coyotes to the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas for a year? Test the market so-to-speak... Not the best facility for it but would still be better than Glendale for fans. Plus another excuse to go to Vegas!
